Mission

Bone memoryDream of Wild Health (DWH) is a 10-acre, organic farm in Hugo, Minnesota. DWH began in 1998 as a program of Peta Wakan Tipi, a St. Paul based non-profit that provides transitional housing for American Indian people in recovery. At the heart of Dream of Wild Health is a collection of more than 300 rare heirloom seeds that have been donated by tribes and families from around the country. In addition to growing out a select number of heirloom seeds each year, we raise organic vegetables for sale at Farmers Markets in the Twin Cities, and provide educational programs for Native youth and families. We partner with urban organizations on programs that work to restore the mental, physical, and emotional health of our community.

The mission of Dream of Wild Health is to promote health in the Native community by expanding knowledge of and access to healthy indigenous foods and medicines.

Our work at Dream of Wild Health is guided by these goals and values:

1)  We honor the seeds as our ancestors by protecting, growing and sharing them in a good way;

2)  We restore an indigenous relationship with the land by reciprocating the gifts we are given with what we give back;

3)  We promote healing relations with people, food and culture;

4)  Our work carries through seven generations.
